Questions and Such

Do you have questions or suggestions? Have you noticed something "off" (such as multiple stories with a single pairing, duplicate comments, etc.) in the fic post?

Let me know here.

I have about fifty zillion pairings I'd love to see/write--I'm not sure when or where to start. When can we start posting?

May. 20th, 2008 02:49 pm (UTC)
You can start posting anytime. =)

Just make certain to include the "request" at the end so that other people can playing as well. *keeps fingers crossed* Once a few people start, hopefully it will pick up.

Silly question probably... if I'm answering someone's request, should I be posting it as a reply to their comment, or as a new thread?
May. 21st, 2008 11:07 am (UTC)
If possible, as a reply to their comment.

I'm sure if I'm doing this right, but I have a Martha Jones/Frank fic I'd like to post so do I need to request it first?
May. 21st, 2008 07:33 pm (UTC)
No, you can go ahead and post it as a new thread. Just make sure to include three requests so that other people can add to that threat. :)

*facepalm* I messed up the italics tag. Ironically for a slash fic, it was the / symbol that was missing.

Is there a way to edit the comment? Or should I just try again?
May. 21st, 2008 11:53 pm (UTC)
Click the above your comment and it should let you edit it. :)

I was playing with the Whoniverse pairing generator* and came up with the interesting (interesting to me, at least) idea of Clyde Langer/Toshiko Sato. Is it okay for me to request the pairing even though I have no plans to write for the community? I know that the main point of all of this is actually getting the stories written, but I haven't written any fic, in any fandom, for several years, and I don't think that trying to start with characters I don't understand very well, especially in one of my newest fandoms, is a good idea. But just contributing ideas helps bring the count up to 1000 by putting one more prompt out there, right?

If it is okay, is there an official place to make the request?

(Also, if it is okay, I'd really like to see Frobisher/Frobisher written one day, which is to say the penguin-y Frobisher from Doctor Who comic strips, and Frobisher from Due South. It could be crack-tastic.)

*Going, "Do I know this character? Nope. This one? Nope. I really need to get out of my just New-Who rut."

I just got home from the theater and am about to pass out now, but I'll try to set up some type of post for donated requests once I get some sleep. :)

ETA: Just go to this post and leave a comment with whatever pairings you'd like to see written. I've included a link to it on the main fic post, so authors who are stuck can get ideas there. Crossovers are allowed too, so feel free to mention the cracktastic one. ;-)

Since different Doctors are obviously being treated as different people as far as pairings go, what about different Masters? Would Delgado!Master/Ainley!Master be a legitimate pairing? Would Three/Delgado!Master and Three/Ainley!Master count separately?
May. 24th, 2008 05:44 pm (UTC)
Yes, that would. With their requests (and stories), some people are listing specific versions of the Master, Romana, etc. Others are leaving it up to the reader to make up their mind.

In the main post, I'm listing them as The Master (Ainley), The Master (Delgado), The Master (Jacobi), The Master (Roberts), The Master (Simm), etc. If it's not specified or obvious from the story which version it is, I'm listing it as The Master (unspecified). Or, in one case, The Master (AU) since it's an AU story where in "The Keeper of Traken" it wasn't Tremas whose body the Master stole.
May. 26th, 2008 11:01 pm (UTC)
Just wanted to let you know that Tenth Doctor/Ross Jenkins is still listed as an open request even though I've done it.
May. 27th, 2008 02:32 am (UTC)
Thanks! I've fixed it now.
May. 31st, 2008 12:08 pm (UTC)
I thought you'd want to know that there seems to be a missing </strike> tag in the 'All Pairings' list, everything from part way down the slash list to the bottom is crossed out.
May. 31st, 2008 12:09 pm (UTC)

I keep doing that. Fixing it now.
Jun. 4th, 2008 05:17 am (UTC)
Is it alright to write a friendship only pairing?
Jun. 5th, 2008 12:36 am (UTC)
It doesn't have to be really 'shippy or anything, but it would be nice if there could be at least be a little subtext since the main point of the community is to write 1000 different pairings.

Um, unless you don't want to blow the gaffe about Professor Chronotis' identity, I think my latest offering is Time Lord/Time Lord, at least technically, bringing the total Time Lord-on-Time Lord pairings to 4?
Jun. 5th, 2008 01:28 am (UTC)
Did I not change that? *makes face* That's another reason why I have this post; so that people can poke at me when I change the date on the statistics without actually updating them.

Question: Are historical figures allowed? I'm assuming the ones that have actually appeared (Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, etc) are okay, but what about those that haven't?
Jun. 9th, 2008 05:47 pm (UTC)
Yes, historical figures are allowed. =)

Hello !

Ace/Zoe is stricken in the "all pairings" list, but is not in the masterlist, I don't know which one is an error...

Also, do you know where one can find a betareader for English grammar ? I usually write in French, but I'd like to participate here, if it's possible.
Jun. 12th, 2008 05:50 pm (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. No one has written that pairing yet, so I probably struck it out in the "all pairings" list instead of something else that was written. :-/

If you'd like, I'd be glad to take a look at any stories for you. Just send them to settiai@gmail.com whenever you need someone to take a look at them.
Jun. 12th, 2008 08:17 pm (UTC)
Jack/Romana hasn't specified which regeneration it is. I'm fairly certain it's Romana II, though it doesn't say as much. Would I still be able to write Romana I with him?
Jun. 12th, 2008 10:48 pm (UTC)
That's fine. If it's not specified, I've tried to list it as such in the masterlist so that specific regenerations can still be written as well.

I think the "het" column in the latest round of statistics is missing a digit.
Jun. 17th, 2008 05:20 pm (UTC)

Fixed now. I accidentally put "587" when I was updating it last night, but I must have deleted the last two digits instead of just the extra one.

Just a note - the "Liz Shaw/Master (Delgado)" link in the Open Requests post leads to persiflage_1's Martha/River fic, and she doesn't appear to have requested it.
Jun. 18th, 2008 04:58 am (UTC)
Thanks! I've found the right link and changed it.

I was wondering if you'd like to affiliate with my community, a fanfiction fest for the couple of the Doctor/Rose called onetrueshipfest?

I have a long story with chapters and in one chapter the Doctor and a MALE Rani have sex and in another Luke Ward has sex with one of my new companions. Is this allowed for a post with a link to the story?
Jul. 9th, 2008 04:24 pm (UTC)
I'd rather avoid posting stories with multiple pairings in them - it makes it very difficult on the count.
Oct. 26th, 2008 10:53 pm (UTC)
I've just posted a Brig/Liz story. I think I've done it right, but just shout at me if I haven't & I will try to fix. (It has more than the two characters in & I'm just noticing that most of the others don't seem to... Is this okay?? It doesn't say that in the rules though.) Eek.

And this is a wonderful idea. I have requested two really obscure pairings at the end. Heh.
Oct. 26th, 2008 10:54 pm (UTC)
Sorry, seeing the post above, I should add, it's not a multiple pairing, it's just that two other characters interfere in the course of the story.

I posted a Doctor/Romana mini-drabble while deliberately not specifying their regenerations (somewhere in the future, probably) and making a note of this in the topic line. Is this allowed?
Jan. 7th, 2009 08:50 pm (UTC)
That's fine. :)

When I update the list, I'll make the same note that they're not specified.

Hey, is there a way to figure out which of the stories is/are new? I still haven't figured out how to do that without breaking my brain.

If you track the main story post, you'll get an alert every time someone posts a new story. :)

I've noticed the fic post has slowed down a lot lately, and I was wondering if you've considered doing a pimping post on, say, doctorwho? I really like this fic meme and want to see it make it all the way to 1000 pairings, but I have almost no Whoniverse fandom friends that I could possibly influence on my own.
Jun. 10th, 2009 04:23 am (UTC)
I'm actually planning on getting some people to help me pimp the community in a month or two in various DW communities, since my friends list pretty much runs the gamut when it comes to the Doctor Who fandom. Real life is slightly insane for me at the moment, though, so I'm going to wait until it's calmed down enough that I'll be able to handle a sudden influx of fics before I really start advertising the community's existence again.

I'm thinking of adding some pairings here and there (will improve my romantic writing one hopes!). But as a question I have... if I was to find a drabble or longer story that someone wrote and it was a pairing not on the site, would I be able to stick it up, or would I need to either let the author know first or get them to stick them up instead?
Feb. 9th, 2011 10:58 pm (UTC)
The actual author of a story is the one who needs to a fic here.
Mar. 19th, 2011 11:19 pm (UTC)
What happens if you post a story that has poor a few mistake's like spelling and grammar?
Mar. 20th, 2011 12:58 am (UTC)
As long as no one has posted a comment to the story yet, you can edit it (if you have a paid account) or simply delete it and repost it. Once someone's commented to it, though, the little mistakes are just going to have to stay there.
Mar. 20th, 2011 02:44 am (UTC)
I made a Cooper/Harriet story but I think I may have put it in the wrong place do you mind moving it?
Mar. 20th, 2011 02:50 am (UTC)
I can't move comments. You could delete it and repost it, though.

ETA: I just checked, and the story appears to be in the right place to me? Assuming you merely misspelled Copper as Cooper, at least.
